Welcome to the Kingscourt Cancer Fund home page. Recognising that there was a need for support and assistance for cancer sufferers in the Kingscourt area, a group of people got together in April 2009 and tried to address this and thus The Kingscourt Cancer Fund (KCF) was established. The KCF is a voluntary organization made up of volunteers who raise money to provide free taxi service to bring cancer patients from the Kingscourt community, to the different hospitals and treatment facility.
Congrats to John McKeown on completing the ‘Peaks Challenge’ cycle in Victoria, Australia, in a remarkable 12 hours 6mins on Sunday 13th last.
It was a tremendous achievement. The route takes in very challenging terrain.
Originally launched by Bicycle Network in 2010, its aim is to provide cyclists with one of the world’s toughest and most picturesque cycling challenges through Victoria’s Alpine region. Starting and finishing at Falls Creek, the 235 km route incorporates more than 4,400 vertical metres with three major climbs . These climbs are comparable to a stage in the Tour de France, riders must complete the circuit within 13 hours to receive a "Finisher’s Jersey". The event is recognised as Australia’s toughest single day cycling event, and in 2013 was named in Global Cycling Network’s Top 10
Therefore, massive congratulations are in order to John who undertook such a big ordeal, and finished in such a great time. As well as this, he has raised much needed funds for the Kingscourt Cancer Fund . A great big THANK YOU to all of his good friends and acquaintances in Australia and Ireland for sponsoring him and donating their hard earned dollars and euros. And as always, behind every great man there is an even greater woman. So thanks to John’s wife Patricia for support and help throughout.

We are delighted that a native of Kingscourt, John McKeown, now living in Australia, has taken on a mammoth challenge on our behalf and is embarking on a 235km cycle challenge, hoping to raise some funds for us..Known as ‘The Peaks Challenge, Falls Creek’ takes place in Victoria and the gruelling event is happening on Sunday 13th March. This arduous cycle takes in many major climbs and John is aiming to complete the course in 13hours, no mean feat!
He hopes that all the Irish community in Australia and indeed all Australians, will get behind him and donate some dollars to the Kingscourt Cancer Fund and fulfilling his objective.
